Abstract
The article addresses the circulation of school autonomy in Italy, that is the translation of the ‘winds’ of decentralization in education fields aimed at the construction of school organizations (the managerialist rethoric). It is suggested that this passage has occured because of a temporary eclipse of statist legacy which has opened a process of pluralization of the modes of governance of the educational field. The essay analyses how that translation has happened in practice as well as the dilemmas and the paradoxes accompanying this change.
