The phenomenon of early school leaving by young people and youth unemployment are the major challenges of the education system. The School-Work Alternance (SWA), mandatory since 2015 in the Italian school system, represents a good chance to promote students’ professional curriculum. The work-based learning could lead an adequate competences acquisition and connect students directly to the world of work. This paper offers some considerations regarding a case study, based on two SWA experiences, which attended by two groups of high-school students, at the Department of Political and Social Sciences (DISPeS) of the University of Calabria. This reflection underlines the main opportunity and critical issues of the SWA in the University
